Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. My name is Leah Day and I opened Lighthouse Bikes after cycling across the United States with my teenage son in Fall 2019. We had such an incredible time that I never wanted to stop. The people we met along the way were unbelievably kind, the places we saw breathtakingly beautiful and the things we learned about ourselves were life changing. When we came home, I wanted to share our love of bike touring with everyone and hopefully, inspire others to get out there and see the world by bicycle. So, after 25 years of working as a clinical counselor, I switched careers and opened Lighthouse Bikes.

Stuart, the lead mechanic at Lighthouse Bikes, has been fixing bikes professionally for over 20 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our shop and is expert in working on everything from a basic tune-up to a high end hydraulic brake system. He keeps a stable of bikes of his own and loves discussing all things bike related from Vintage to cutting edge. He started his bicycle career as a paper boy at eight years old. From there he took to bike racing, then working as a bike messenger in Boston and now enjoys riding on road, dirt and gravel when ever he gets a chance.

The tour guides at Lighthouse Bikes are top-notch. This group shares a genuine feeling of camaraderie, good humor and cheer.  They have a passion for bicycling, for the outdoors and for engaging with people. All of them have studied this areas history-the lighthouses, the forts, and the city itself as well as the natural history of the Maine Coast. They are safety conscious and take their leadership responsibilities seriously while always seeming to have fun.

I spend my days fixing flats, swapping adventure stories with our guests and giving tours along Maine’s beautiful coast. What could be better? I hope you join us.
